Hydrotherapy pool in action featuring one of our patients

The Linhay has a hydrotherapy treadmill, custom designed for canine rehabilitation. When animals exercise in water, the energy expended is significantly greater compared to that on land.

Exercising against water resistance, in a partial weight-bearing environment, allows active muscle contraction with minimal loading effect on the musculoskeletal system. This results in:

  • Improved muscle strength and endurance
  • Reduced oedema and swellingg
  • Management of acute and chronic pain
  • Improved joint range of motion
  • Improved cardiovascular function

The hydrotherapy treadmill provides a controlled environment for rehabilitation, where specific joints or muscle groups may be targeted during treatment. The treadmill speed and depth of the water may be varied to achieve this, and also allows for gait analysis. A veterinary surgeon, physiotherapist or nurse will always be present during each session depending on the animal’s condition/needs.

The Linhay also has a hydrotherapy pool which may be more suited to your animals rehabilitation needs. This will be discussed by our vet and Chartered Physiotherapist following an initial consultation/examination.
