Horse receiving treatment

EQUINE REHABILITATION

From August 2007, we are able to offer a veterinary referral equine rehabilitation service at the Linhay. Horses that have been injured, or are recovering after surgery, may benefit from a rehabilitation plan. An initial assessment may be made at the Linhay where we have a ménage and hard standing.

Our equine staff includes Kate Rew, veterinary surgeon with IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society) qualifications in acupuncture, and Helen Mathie, Chartered & Veterinary Physiotherapist (ACPAT A) who also works freelance for the British Equestrian Federation. In addition we have several trained veterinary nurses with equine experience.

Our team will assess the horse and develop an individual rehabilitation programme, with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach. We work closely with the owner, farrier, Master saddler and referring veterinary surgeon to ensure the best possible outcome.

A combination of the following therapies is offered to ensure the optimal return to function for equine patients

  • Physiotherapy: Including manual therapy, thermal modalities, TENS, neuromuscular stimulation, laser, ultrasound
  • Acupuncture: Dry needling, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion
  • Therapeutic exercises: Stretching, ridden exercises, pole work and remedial schooling
